5.0 vs 5.8 flywheel

Just outta curiousity... for the second time Im changing out my transmission on my 89 with the 5.8 and the flywheel is bad. I have an 84 5.0 as a parts truck, will the flywheel work on the 5.8 from the 5.0???

No, same size but the 5.0 version is 50oz imbalance while the 5.8 is 28oz.

As long as the ring gear teeth are good and there's no cracks around the bolt holes.

and you are infact getting the right flywheel. i dont always trust what the yards say those are. unless you physicaly see the flywheel being pulled from a 5.8

Flywheel or flexplate? They are two different things as a flywheel is for a manual transmission to which the clutch pressure plate bolts to while the flexplate is on an automatic transmission which the torque converter bolts to.

You can visibly see the difference between zero oz, 28 oz and a 50 oz imbalance weights. Compare the junkyard piece to your old one, to verify the correct balance weight. If it has no balance weight at all, it's off a 240/300 inline 6, which will physically bolt up to a 302/351, but the zero imbalance wouldn't be good for the V8.

Last I bought a new 302 flexplate was about 10 years ago, for around $80.

Rockauto lists both the flywheel and flexplates for roughly 60 bucks, with premium flywheels as much as 90 bucks...
