Hi -New here and have a question - hopefully simple answer. I have a 1974 F250 (360/4 speed/68,000 original miles) with body rust. I have the chance to get a 1977 F250 2 wheel camper special - no rust body. Will the frame fit from the 2 wheel to the 4 wheel - can I swap frames? thanks in advance to anyone that can help -
So what are you saying? You want to swap the 4w stuff onto the 2wd frame? If so the answer is no its not a irect swap. If you want to put the 2wd body on the 4wd frame it can be done. A couple holes will need to be drilled but thats not a big deal
Your 74 is what is referred to as a highboy, it uses a divorced transfer case which allows you many different options. You can put your 74 4X4 on the 77 frame with just a few mods. First you will have to use your 74 transfer case cross member or fabricate up a new one. If your 77 has leaf springs on the front then you will be able to put your front diff in place of the straight axle however yours probably has a twin I beam set up on coils so you will need to remove your front frame member, leaf springs, and hangers off the 74 and reinstall on the 77. There are kits on the market for just such a swap but you will have everything you need if you can cut and weld a little. Putting the highboy 4X4 set up under the 77 is just about as easy as changing 2wd to 4wd can get not that any of it is easy but you don't have to change engines or transmissions, because of the divorced T case. I have done this same conversion from the high boy to E series vans and it really isn't that tough. Only catch I can see is that your camper special may have the rare set back rear axle, if it does you will have to have a drive shaft custom made. You may have to move your spring perches in a little if you use the 74 rear end because the highboys ran a narrower frame by about 3". Other than that you should be able to pull it off.
Is there any way i could do this i got a 250 76 2wd can i make this a fwd with a new frame like any thing from 78 79 80do you know what im talking about cause no can tell me here where i live thanks

Yes you can do this with 77, 78, 79 parts but you will have to use the transmission and transfer case from those years. The 73- 76 and very early 77 F-250's used the divorced transfer case that allowed it to be used under almost anything, the 77-79 transfer bolted directly to the transmission. The frame rail are basically the same in design you would need to put leaf springs under your ride or use coils with longer radius arms from a half tone truck. If the second route is taken you would have some grinding and welding to do on the new front end and have to set up proper driveline angles because all the 250's had leaf springs. The 150's used coils. If you didn't mind the lighter axles you could put half ton axles under your rig with a lot less work but either way its a little more than a weekend job for most people. I can do the swap in a weekend if I have the donor truck disassembled prior to starting and using air tools.
Another way to do it is to get the frame you want, then set it up like you want it, and swap bodies. If you use a late 77 or 78-79 4X4 frame you more that likely will have to drill new body mount holes because the 76 frame is narrower.
