I was told the pinouts for the 94 and 97 powerstroke PCM's are different. I thought they were interchangeable. Anyone know for sure?
I would like to put a 97 computer in my 94. It is a lot more recent programming and shouldn't hurt I would think. I'm mostly wanting to do it because I am sick and tired of not being able to use my scanner in the OBD2 port on the 94. I can on the 97. Both pcm's I have now are 49 staters. 94 is a 5 speed, 97 is an E4OD.
as stated you can install the '97 PCM in the '94, you will now have a 225HP '94.5 PSD, instead of a 215HP.
One thing for anyone else reading to watch out for is you can put an Auto trans PCM in a 5 speed truck but you CAN NOT put a 5 speed PCM in an Auto. apparently they dont have the logic for the trans.

A 94 IDI did not have a PCM. The auto tranny might have had a brain box, but not a PCM that controlled the engine. You will have to find a PCM for a 95-97 truck that had an auto tranny in it, as all 94.5 trucks with the powerstroke were equipped with the ZF5 manual trannys.
