Mechanic said its frozen up. He can leave it locked in and whenever I want it out of 4/W I would have to take it in and have him do it. Or he can fix it right, like it's suppose to work but it will cost $770.

ouch... how much in parts does that come out to for the auto's ? If that's the case maybe just swap them out for manuals and then save the extra $500 for a nice new exhaust and remote start
It was going to be about $600 in parts alone. He said they've seen a lot of 4W that are freezing up. I'll have to wait before I get it fixed the right way.
Thanks for the help.
220 bucks for the replacement hub from Ford just did one on my F350. I have the same issue with my Ex. My right hub was froze up so I had my dad put pressure on it while the t-case was in 4x4 and I rolled forward. Rolled about a foot and it went in. I am assuming that these are auto manual hubs. I have the vacume leak on mine but both lines going into the hub assymbly have come off. I am going to fix them tomorrow. But when I put it in the air goes to defrost so the diagnosis above about a vacume leak is accurate.
No because they never needed it. How did you guess? If you see my original thread starter it says "just an idea" but my mechanical background tells me it will work.
I did indeed read that thread when it first started. Didn't know if you had done it or not. ATF is a good idea. I've actually put some in my shock on my motorcycle to eliminate a groaning internal seal.
However, I was curious if you actually drilled yours or if you were just suggesting somebody else be the guinea pig.

I have a 2003 Excursion 7.3 PS. I hear the hubs lock & unlock but 4WD doesn't work. Is there some kind of sensor on the transfer case that puts it in 4WD?
