Ive got dust that has settled behind the clear lens on my instrument panel and I was wondering what it takes to remove it for cleaning. I know the bezel needs to be removed, but how do I go about doing that.
Pop out the two trim pieces from the cluster surround down by the vents. They're black on XLs, silver on XLTs. You can get a screwdriver or a key in the gap and just pry them out. Behind those you'll find a couple of torx screws, remove those.
Remove the headlight **** by depressing the little spring clip with a small screwdriver, or like me, by breaking the **** because you get mad at it.
Work the instrument cluster surround off by popping the snap clips around the edge. If you have push button 4WD or dual tanks, you might have to remove the switch as well. If you have an automatic, you'll probably need to put the wheel as low as you can, and drop the shift lever into 1st.
After that you'll see the cluster is held in with torx screws. Remove the entire cluster, disconnect the two harnesses and take it inside with you. Remove the cover, clean, and reverse the steps to reinstall.
