I finally got it running this Sunday AM. It still puts out a little smoke, BUT!!! It had two thing's wrong that I didn't know when I started this. One, THe Master cylinder was leaking Brake fluid into the Power Brake diaphram, and consequently into the Manifold through the Vacuam port. What a mess.I had to replace the Master Cylinder and rebuild both rear wheel cylinders
Two, the previous driver thought he was having problem's with the Cheap gas, and shellac in the tank so he put a little diesel(I dont know how much is a little) in the tank to soften it up. It was nearly out of gas, so it's been sucking up that diesel. and three, the Engine oil hasn't been changed since 98, and that alone will contribute to oil consumption. So... I'll know more when I get done changing the oil, anti-freeze,Radiator hoses and some other little stuff. I have to drive it two miles to get gas, and I'm afraid the local Ghandarme will get me for no valid plates or inspection sticker. More later wheather anybody's interested or not.
Other than being exhausted, perplexed, angry, dissappointed, disgusted, bleeding from every knuckle and broke, I love it. It's reccommended therapy, you know, and Boy and I glad that good lookin thing is in my Yard!!!
I'm still interested. Let me know about the oil consumption. The '77 460 I'm running now sounds like it might be a kissin' cousin to the previous owner of yours. I had xmission fluid in the brake res, oil so thick I had to heat the pan to drain it before I dropped it for cleaning, copper tubing for brake lines, etc. Keep posting when you get a few miles on 'er and see if it still burns up the quarts instead of the gallons. The price of gas here in the GreenBay area just took another .10 increase last week, up to $1.49 for reg. Sure makes it hard for the 460's to keep runnin'.
Geez... down here in Milwaukee regular is only 1.449.. LOL.. Oh well. I got 6.5mpg on my last tank (really bad heads) so I feel for ya. Have fun sucking up the gas.
Two_by I had to laugh. I guess you got the more "interesting" of the two of us. I've discovered another little problem now, it's quitting, like no fuel, when the supply is low. My Vacuam pump will pull fuel from the tank with less than 4 lbs, and I get 4to 6 lbs pressure from the pump, so I guess it's in the carburator. See me diving headfirst into the Maw....
When I first got this wrek and I use the term dearly, the old guy had about 6 inline fuel filters (used) in the glove box. Shuda hit me in the head right away but it wasn't until I got stuck with a dying engine out in no man's land that I finally realized the guy had fuel problems. It might not be your carberator, first check the fuel filter that goes into the carb,I wound up just cutting the rubber fuel line and putting in a larger in-line filter, the kind of white plastic that you can see if it's dirty or not. It helped 100%. LOL
