Strange starting issue..
When it is cold out 40* or lower the truck will not attempt to turn over when the key is turned. I usually have to wait with the key on, engine off for a minute or two before the engine will spin and start. When it does spin it starts right up.
Now that it has gotten really cold 12-20* It will take several turns of the key and about 5mins to get the truck to attempt to turn over. This time when the engine spins it will start right up but run a little rough for 30 secs or so and is blowing some white smoke (I had read where this could be because of my program I'm running).
Now if I have the block heater plugged in overnight (12* outside) go out and start it.. it starts right up just like normal and runs nice and smooth, no smoke.
Now..assuming.. the batteries are good (they have been tested, several times) what could cause the engine to not turn over until it (what it seems) is warmed up enough by the glow plugs? And what would cause the engine to continue to keep starting even though the key has been turned off (engine is not running but turning over). Maybe a relay somewhere sticking?
I am using 5w-20 synthetic, 4" off-road turbo back, and extreme street tune 420hp)

OBTW - Ford replacement relays are very expensive. Any DPST 30 amp relay will work. They are fairly standard. I believe you can get them at Radio Shack for about $5 to $7.
