I need to regear the Dana 60 I'm using for my SAS. I wanted guys opinions on good gears for the money. It will be most a DD but will see off road use as well. Thanks for the input.
yukon and yukon only in my book. You really get what you pay for and if you break a cheap set, you'll spend more money on the new set and install kit over just buying a good set in the begining.
I was leaning towards Yukon gears, but read a post here that said they had some problems with thier Yukons. Figured I'd check around before laying out the money. Did yall just buy them direct through Yukon or does some one else do a better deal? Thanks.
I go threw randys ring and pinion. You can have problems with any gear if you set it up wrong, or have too small of an axle for what your running so you might look into that too to see if that might have been the problem. I've got two sets of them and they've done great for me. It's what I'm going to run in my D60/10.25 as well. If your REALLY worried about the strength of them you can always have them sent to longfield and have them cryo dipped but I don't think you'll be needing to do that.
I have a friend that installs R & P's for a living. He's a young open minded guy that is not exclusively brand specific when it comes to high performance race parts, and never has a bad word to say about anything.
Both he and the shop he works in had to quit installing Youkon gears several years ago because in high demand situations the gears would fail. He said not all, but enough of them constantly failed that they had to quit using them. They continue to use Spicer or "Motive". He builds many after market racers and big custom crawlers. Said he's never had a "motive" gear fail on it's own.
Anyone need a new Youkon full spool from Randy's for a 60 (30 spline)? Bought it new last year, Randy's says it'll fit a 60, 4.56 and below. Couldn't get it to shim up. brand new 1/2 price delivered!! They tried to tell me I have a Dana 61 instead of a 60! Randy's says that Youkon doesn't make a full spool for a 4.10 and higher so it can't be the wrong spool. 1/2 price delivered !!
Just my experience but I'm staying away from the Youkon/Randy's combo. But I have heard many people have nothing but good things to say about both. Just my personal experience.
But as I said, Yukon sounds like the best around. Everytime i've seen someone regear, its always been Yukon and for the most part through Randys R&P. They are really good about answering any questions you have aswell.
Thanks Prozon, it does ok for a stock classed 1 ton. Looks like your not afraid to get yours stuck either!! One thing I've never had on a daily driver is a winch. Sure would be handy
As for the Youkon gears, I've been trying to break the Youkon rear gear in my race truck all summer and haven't been able to do it.
Probably over 100 drag track hole shots and 40 bog passes! So I'm sure they aren't junk!
I always had good luck with Precision Gears, but I think they are a bit pricey. My local "4wheel parts" stop selling the brand and are now going to "G2" brand. Does any one know if "G2" ring & pinions are good. I was told by one guy that Yukon makes this gear. Does anyone have any info on this?
