240 cid timing gear

I have a '74 f100 with an old i6 240. I need to replace the timing gear. On this motor it uses a gear to gear connection( no chain) i had no problem getting the small metal gear( crankshaft gear) off. But am unable to get the camshaft gear(the larger one) off. Being that it is some type of plastic material all a puller does is rip through it. Any ideas? Also the new gears ate both steel. Any install suggestions?

I have installed timing gears on 240 and 300 engines and found pulling the cam out pressing the gear off with a press seemed to work best .Even with a press you always seem to break the fiber cam gear .when replacing I'd put a steel one back on

Yep, pull the cam out and use a press to remove it.

A hydraulic shop press.

If you don't have one, a machine shop should be able to do it pretty cheap.
