So wow cant belive how much is gone wrong in my truck in the last week lol..... first off my driveshaft is messed up and shakes the whole truck replaced all 3 u joints and midshaft bearing just to make things worse... starter went again... and now my block heater seems not to be working... how hard is it to change the block heater sense thats the only way i can get my truck started iss by pluggin it in....if someone has any advice about the block heater that would be great....
Ditto on the glow plugs. The heater is located on the oil cooler just above oil filter. Drain cooland, remove old one, install new one. P.S. spray crap out of it with PB Blaster!!
well i know i got glow plug issues lol but i was just going to be lazy and not worry about them and just use the block heater sence its just easier that way lol .... but now sence its broke i dont know what to do gaaaa never ends
right now its 5 with - 16 windchill.... usally it will start around 25 out... with out pluggin it in its a little cranky tho.. i know i need new plugs and relay but i dont have the money and i really dont want to do it myself..

i really think thats over blown,so you tellin me i have to change my oil to a diffferent grade in order to start in cold weather?
I can't imagine anyone saying that. I can say it makes it easier. Have a look in the owners manual for viscosity recommendations for temperature ranges. It is easy to see that Ford recognized the need for a different grade when it is way cold out. Using the block heater can negate this need as you have pointed out.

You don't have to, but it certainly does make it easier to start in cold weather. If you think about how the injectors fire and what it takes to start these engines in sub freezing temps, you can see why a synthetic 5W-40 that is thinner than 15W40 when cold, will make starting easier.
I'll add that I'm running 15W-40 and it's colder here than it ever has been in years. This morning for the first time ever owning this truck it romped twice (I don't plug in) and then smoothed out. Tomorrow I'm dumping the dino oil early and going back to the Rotella-T syth. Haven't decided if I'm going to change the filter or not though, hasn't been on that long.

How do you know it isn't working? Did your temp gauge come up after plugging in before, and now it does not?
Are you sure your GPs or GPR are bad? Have you done some troubleshooting?
