Ditto on the glow plugs. The heater is located on the oil cooler just above oil filter. Drain cooland, remove old one, install new one. P.S. spray crap out of it with PB Blaster!!

I would suggest changing to syn 5w.40 and you won't have any problem starting your engine when it is cold...

I can't imagine anyone saying that. I can say it makes it easier. Have a look in the owners manual for viscosity recommendations for temperature ranges. It is easy to see that Ford recognized the need for a different grade when it is way cold out. Using the block heater can negate this need as you have pointed out.

You don't have to, but it certainly does make it easier to start in cold weather. If you think about how the injectors fire and what it takes to start these engines in sub freezing temps, you can see why a synthetic 5W-40 that is thinner than 15W40 when cold, will make starting easier.

Edit - Tenn is on the ball tonight.

I'll add that I'm running 15W-40 and it's colder here than it ever has been in years. This morning for the first time ever owning this truck it romped twice (I don't plug in) and then smoothed out. Tomorrow I'm dumping the dino oil early and going back to the Rotella-T syth. Haven't decided if I'm going to change the filter or not though, hasn't been on that long.

How do you know it isn't working? Did your temp gauge come up after plugging in before, and now it does not?

Are you sure your GPs or GPR are bad? Have you done some troubleshooting?
