This is the part that is confusing because the Nulon ATF specs say it will work in both applications.
Roland hit it in his post. The biggest differences between SP and the other Mercon specs is the viscosity. SP has a lower viscosity than the Mercon V fluid. I'm not saying that the fluid will not work - just need to make sure it's not too low for the 4R100.
Mercon V will work in the 4r100 but i was told by a trans mechanic not to mix the two. Don't know what will happen but i have since heard it by several not to mix so i went back with the traditional mercon when i put in my transgo and flushed the system. Don't know if i would take that to the bank but thats my .02
I would also send Mark Kovalsky (post #10) a PM to get his input. What caught my eye was that the Nulon fluid states good for Ford Mercon V and SP applications.
From the info I have read Mercon V requires a minimum viscosity of 6.8, the SP requires a viscosity of 5.5 to 6.
The Nulon website shows it has a viscosity of 7? So how can it be used for both applications? Just want to make sure before you make the purchase.
Still waiting to here back from Nulon.
Next question. If I follow the steps here Changing ATF Fluid in a E4OD and 4R100 transmission .: Articles will that flush the all the old oil out (mind you it is only six months old) and leave me with clean synthetic?
Well my local Ford dealer stocks Motocraft MerconV in quart bottles only. You talk about being expensive. Here one quart cost $ 20.50 x 18 qts lol, forget it.
Heck,if its that high down under, maybe we can check shipping and ship a good choice to him.
