Hi all, I'm putting a 77 supercab cabin on a dually F350 frame, and it's time to put my nice new cab mounts in. The originals are held in place with washers that have a sleeve on them, and one end slides inside the other when you put it all together. My original washer/sleeves are rusted together fairly solid, and it looks like I'll have to heat them with the oxy to get them out. My question is, are you able to get these new, or will I have to make some new ones? Thanks, Paul
Some of the obsolete parts dealers might have some. A couple of months ago Green Sales had three in stock. New mount kits from LMC have them but I don't think they sell them separatley.
Before you get the torch out try this:
Soak them really good with a good penetrating oil, my favotite is Kroil or even better, a homemade brew of 50/50 mix acetone and ATF. Then get a long 7/16"-14 bolt (about 5"-6" long should be good) and screw it into the mount from above. Then hit it with a big hammer. This should separate the mount.
If they are frozen really solid it might not work but for the cost of a bolt and some oil vs. trying to locate obsolete parts ($$$), it's worth the effort.
Good Luck.
I second pagenit2's suggestion - you can get used take off's from Bronco Graveyard (i got these and were really nice - no rust) or you can get new ones (don't know if they are OEM or aftermarket). Save the frustration / oxy gas / penetrating lube and get different ones.
I recently replaced my body bushings and didn't want to buy new sleeves cause they were so expencive. Here is my post of what I did for cheap! I got all my bolts and washers from home depot. I used fender washers and just stacked them 3 high. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...em-solved.html
Thank you all for your replies, I tried gentle persuasion with a good soaking of inox (good penetrating oil here in Australia) and a large hammer, but they won't shift. So I'll probably end up cutting them off and making new ones up on the lathe. Thanks again, I'll post some pics of this thing when I get the body and tray sitting on the chassis, should look good! Paul
Funny this should come up. I just took my old ones off yesterday. I used a railroad spike and drove it through the top with a 5 pound sledge. worked good on mine...
