i started my truck today, but i forgot to plug it in last night. The truck started up but made a slow cranking noise like it was cold, normal when it is cold i know that. But i let it warm up and went to get coffee when i parked the truck i let it run. When i came back out the truck was shut off. Went back in to start the truck the wait to start light didnt come on and its cranks but wont turn over. Im thinking maybe its too cold either the oil is too thick or the fuel gelled up and shut it off. So i put it in a heated garage to warm it up check up on it later today. Any ideas
do you mean by cranks as it turns over but won't start? and does the tach move while you crank it? i would check the #22 fuse i think it runs the glow plugs and maybe the computer it's a big green one that is 30 amp
#22 maxi fuse does not run the glow plugs, i do belive it runs the fuel heater element, and when that shorts it will kill the truck. oil cant be to thick for this to start and not start after it shuts off so you can rule that out, as ARK said if your tachometer does not bounce at all when cranking your cam position sensor is out, but by the sounds of it, thats not the issue, check that fuse, 22, and if that is blown then go to the driver side of the fuel bowl and unplug the heater, the fuse will just keep blowing untill you remove the heater.
18 and 22 are both fuses to check when you got problems though.
Most likely the fuel bowl heater shorted out while it was idling.
You can look down in the fuel bowl after you take the filter out, on the plate in there, there is a wire with 3 feet on it. You can tell if its messed up or not, but stick your finger down in there and see if you can move it on the platter.
If you can move it, then unplug it on the side of the bowl. Replace the fuse, and problem solved.
You do not have to remove it from the bowl, but you need to unplug it.
If you do ever take the bowl out, then just remove it then.
