And since the engine and fuel filter are much higher than the tank fuel level, a vacuum is what holds the fuel up there.

Air leaks in, fuel returns to the lowest level possible, ie the fuel tank.

The low here last night was 24 on my back porch, supposed to be the same all week. One more fuel question,The line going from the filter to the IP does it have to be a metal line,or can I have a hydrolic type line made? I got some material and used the old fittings but they are in rough shape. No fuel leak but maybe air.

The filter to IP line has those funny packings on the line side to seal it.

You could run regular fuel line as far as the pressure goes, but I would be worried that vibration with the regular fuel line laying on the injection lines may cause problems down the road.
Either an injection line failing or the fuel line rubbing through.

You will be limited in what you can use by the fitting on the IP, can't remember what threads it has where it screws into the IP.
From memory that is not a standard thread used on normal pipe fittings.

Any Idea where to find those rubber groments that seal the line from the filter to the IP?
