460 stalling

My 86 stalls, When I start out in 2nd gear and step on the throttle it falls flat on its face for a about 10 seconds then picks right up, What is causing this? Another thing when i decelerate there is a grinding noise on the drivers side front, but the noise quits when i hit brakes... Please help!!!

Thanks, Tom

EFI or carb?

EDIT: It's prolly carb; if so, remove the air cleaner and look stright down into the carb as
you fully open the accelerator using your hand (engine not running). You should see two
strong streams of gas being injected into the manifold, the accelerator pump on the carb
does this. If you don't see those wtrong streams (or see only a dribble) your accelerator
pump needs attention.

If EFI, pull the codes and see what the computer says.

It is sounding like the accelerator pump. As for the grinding, have you inspected the brakes? It almost sounds like a wear indicator, but it could also be a wheel bearing, or even loose pads.

The accelerator pump is located at the front drivers side of your carburetor
There is an arm that operates it connected to the throttle linkage.
Remove the air cleaner and look down the front barrels of the carb as you work the throttle. You should see two streams of fuel when you push it open.

As for your brakes.
Check that the anti-rattle spring is properly installed above the pads and that the caliper is free to slide on its carrier.

Hope this is helpful.

Mine was doing the same thing and it wasnt the accelerator pump. It was a result of adjusting the rear butterflies open alittle bit to lean it out. If its not the accelerator pump it could be the rear butterflies are sticking open, cracked, or missing a screw etc and sucking to much air.
