Hello all,
I have a 98 Explorer w/ 4.0 sohc auto. The truck starts fine and idles fine until the air compressor kicks in when using the defrost or a/c. The compressor sounds as it always had doesn't make any unusual noises and cools fine but, stalls. The truck will restart immediately and idles steady until the compressor kicks in again. I have no MIL (check engine) light. What do I check first? Where do I start? As always thanks to any and all who try to help.
Check all hoses for vacuum leaks. Start engine and run at 1000 rpm. Turn on air conditioning. Does engine still stall? No = check IAC. Yes = possible plugged ac lines, compressor about to seize, other power driven device about to seize. Remove and clean IAC, spray lube IAC shaft. If this fixes replace IAC.
