This morning I did the make your own CAI conversion using the factory airbox. You pull off the factory snorkle that goes into the fender and replace it with a 3" PVC pipe and use a rubber coupler to connect the PVC to the airbox.
I went out tonight to run to the store and my truck was making this wicked whine sound that sounded like a throwout bearing going out or a whale trying to communicate with me. I popped the hood and opened the airbox and it seemed to be coming from the MAF. The noise was worse when my truck was cold and not so bad after I got home but it was still there. I also cleaned the MAF with electronic contact cleaner. Is it possible that I created too much airflow? I can't see how it would be too much flow but have to ask. I did a test run after I finished the airbox and there was no noise and it ran fine.
It sounds more like a whine or hum than a whistle or air leak.
I also cleaned the IAC with throttle body cleaner. I searched some other posts and I guess I should have used the same electronic cleaner I used on the MAF. I just cleaned the IAC again with the cleaner I used on the MAF and the hum is slightly there. I unpluged the lead on the IAC and the hum stops so at least now I know what the problem seems to be.
I'll run it around tomorrow AM and see what happens.
