im trying to remove my bezel so that i can cut out the old stereo mounts and put in my new ones. but i cannot figure out how to remove the light and wiper ***** so that my bezel can come off! i need it all the way off so my cutting wheel can get in there. how do i remove the *****?
The light switch has a button on top of the switch that you have to push down to get the **** and shaft to release. While pushing down the button, pull the **** towards you. You have to reach up under the dash to do this.
On the wiper **** take a paper clip or something similar and bend a small hook on the end. At the base of the **** is a small detent. Put the hook in this detent and pull towards you. Pull on the **** as you do this and it should pull right off.

You must first have the headlights in the on position before pushing the button to release the shaft and ****. Once the shaft is out you can easily push it back in without locking it in and turn off the headlights and then pull the shaft out again.

Of course, one would think that if you're working on ANYthing electrical in the vehicle, that you'd have already disconnected the battery...not only to avoid any potential damage to the system, but to yourself as well. That being the case, the position of the switch would be somewhat moot other than the exception of where it needs to be to push the button and release the switch rod.

They have "clips" on the back you need to depress to pull them off.
Thanks from me, too. My original '76 factory manual just says, "remove". It's usually pretty good with the details, but I figured there was something missing here.

I honestly couldn't count the amount of times I've pulled the headlight shaft on various trucks without disconnecting the battery.
And switch position is not "moot". The headlights needs to be in the on position in order for the shaft to be released. If you try to push the button with the shaft all the way in you will never get the shaft out without causing damage to the switch.
