I think I would investigate another mechanic, at least for diagnostic purposes. I installed a freeze plug at the age of 16, the 1st one I did, and it did not leak. Why does a 'pro' install leaking freeze plugs? Do you trust Bars Leak to do the job? I don't, and consider it a last resort for a radiator that has seen its last days, and is so rotted that it needs replacement or re-coring.
How old was the hose that split? The LM SURELY had to look at the hose when he did the cylinder head job, as he had to remove the intake [hose attaches there, i'm pretty sure], and with the problems with the cooling system he SHOULD have inspected the remainder of the cooling system, no?
