Lenny1carl if you go to photobucket and look on BobNYState that is my page on there I have pictures of my system there for this.
The second guy i brought in here wastalking about that circulating pump on there which is the red pump on the pipe to the Amtrol Im not sure how the thing flows and the first guy ( from my oil company)took apart the other side of that pipe and stated that was the check valve opposite the red pump and it was ok.. they said all that junk on the floor was the crap that leaked outta the pipe there. Are those the pumps and flow valves im looking at or are there others on the boiler itself or somewhere else in the system
It is a peerless boiler model JOT -4H-S or 5
Serial JOT BB 207
the Amtrol is a WA -7L 7P
The red cartridge is the circ for the Amtrol. It appears to have been replace at some point because of the blue flange on the boiler side of the copper. There should be no others on a steam boiler.
Again, without being there myself, it's impossible to even tell if it's engaging.
If it is.. the inlet and outlet(the 3/4" copper) should both be hot when the Amtrol is calling for heat.
I will say one thing i noticed from the PB pics was gaqlvanized pipe. A huge NO NO. I see there is new black iron.. just fine but that galvi is junk on boilers.
Also it's not good mixing metals..black/copper, copper/galvi..
Some use a brass trasition, some use a die-electic union..
Ok yesterday the guys from the oil company came back I told them i didnt want to change the piping because it had always worked before. they replaced the aquastat and had emptied the boiler of all the water and all and they couldnt get the pump to work, I know they played with electric to things and the controller in the amtrol. then they insisted in making a bypass to the hot water so they tapped into the cold water line and added a valve so if that isnt the problem then it would be easily reversible . They have it rigged so that the cold water from the street is coming into the Amtrol and the boiler is heating the water that circulates through the coil in the Amtrol. For now it is working , and you see the pump working.. there is an idiot light on the controller for the Amtrol that shines when the circulating pump ( red one) is working and it appears to be working Im getting hot water without the noise of the beeping amtrol and the thing isnt flashing error codes so for now im happy
I still dont understand why after 25 years this routing of the pipes had to be changed because it worked all the rest of the time
Ok yesterday the guys from the oil company came back ............I still dont understand why after 25 years this routing of the pipes had to be changed because it worked all the rest of the time
25 yrs....say a Hail Mary. Long time for a steam system not needing "deep care".
Honestly Bob..you'll be money ahead replacing the boiler. The tax cedit program is right in your pocket.
Yeah it's a hit upfront but over 10-15 yrs....you'll be glad to be rid of the beast you are running now.
Just don't go with hacks you've had there recently. They are bugger rigging you just to get by.
I was actually thinking of replacing everything but in all honesty the way things are going i dont plan on being here that long. My parents live here too. Mom was born in the house 83 years ago and it is their wish to die here. I have every intention of granting that wish for them. Once they pass, I have no desire to stay here and will move on with my life. Im playing the odds that I can get another five to ten out of the boiler to accomodate them. The other thing is that my wife has had a return of her cancer and I dont want to mess with this right now either. Im just trying to keep things patched up
Bob..sorry to hear of the return of her cancer. In my prayes again.
I'd at least get rid of the galvi pipes then. They rot from the inside out an especially at the threads and the flaking can puke a circ or other controls.
yeah ill definately get rid of the galvanized junk hopefully it will last until i can shut off the heat. then ill do it
Sue had her first round of chemo today..a week delayed due to illness and hopefully that goes well. ill let ya know what happens
