It made a big difference in how the floor feels and is a lot warmer.
Unfortunately the floor is not even remotely close enough to level to support something like that. The house is over 100 years old, and someone poured concrete at some point, but did a really poor job of leveling it. I have added a full bath down there (so I can update the other one soon) but the ceiling is barely 6'. I'm putting my office down there only due to having a lack of room anywhere else in the house. I will be putting my desk down there with some other odds and ends, but its less than ideal. This only needs to hold me over until I can finish refurbishing (gutting) the first floor so we can sell the place.
