I know my gpr is good. This is driving me crazy. Any sensors I should be checking that would be affected at 40 degrees or lower? Like I said above, no codes are being thrown that would lead me to anything.
I am sure the plugs are coming on. With the load side of the gpr energized, I can take the large wire that feeds the glow plugs and touch it to the load side post, and you can see the big spark and amp draw. I am not just taking the led and meter readings for granted on this. they are working. Where do I look next?
Hi Guys,
An update on the hard starting issue. I changed the oil and filter last night from 15-40 Motorcraft to 5w-40 rotella synthetic. I left the rig unplugged last night and it got down to 15 degrees plus wind here in Horseheads, NY. I turned the key, and let the plugs energize for about 25 seconds and she took right off, like right off the showroom floor!! First time since I bought it used (218000 miles) that it has started the right way below 40 degrees. What a great feeling. Just wanted to thank all for their help, and the synthetic oil change seems to have finally cured an issue that was driving me nuts.
i've been having the same issues as well. GPR,GP's,batts,DB Starter, alternator, cables are all new or tested great. Been talking with some guys on other forums and some diesel mechs around town and they are almost positive its the injectors are getting worn out and bypassing oil and not operating correctly with the cold thick oil. I was going to try the 5-40 Syn oil as well to see if that helped, as injectors are pricey. But it is only a band aid......
Now for that truck, there is some systems not operating to spec. Either some weak GP's, a sticking IPR, marginal IPC sensor.... something. When the RPM's drop to those "lows" there isn't enough low pressure oil to keep good oil flow to the engine![/QUOTE]
COuld someone explain issues with the IPR and IPC... maybe I need a better understanding of what they each actually do, maybe briefly where they are located? I'm not having issues, just curious.
Thanks!
