Well I'm pretty sure I stripped the forward clutches on my E4OD so since I have to go in the trans I might as well make it indestructable since with out shopping around I'm under 1/3 the price of a normal rebuild that doesn't include hard parts.
I'm going to run red eagle clutches and kolean steal, use the bauman hard parts upgrade kit and a precision of new hampton rv torque convertor. I'm probly going to do the Coon trany mod to the valve body and I'm going to put the pump fix kit out of the trans go shift kit in, Unless I find a good deal on a 4r100 pump. I'm going to talk to my dads budy at the machine shop and see if I want to machine the pistons dow to add even more clutches or not.
So any opions, suggestions or things I missed about this E4OD build?
I'm confused I skimmed the article and I didn't see mujch tech info on the trans, did you base your build off that trans using info from some where els or did I miss something on that page. As It stands right now including the manuals I want to get I'm in it about as much as they spent on the convertor.
Thanks for the links guys, I don't get why racerxs web sites shut down for the holidays I under stand not letting people order but you cant even window shop.
Oh man! This is just the post I've been waiting for! I want to rebuild my E4OD.Tired of paying somebody Every 80,000To 100,000 and just putting up with weak shifts toward the end. More details everyone. I am going to spend the weekend reading the only free book I can find (from the library)about overhauling FORD transmisions. No E4OD in it though.
For the convertor I'm leaning twards the precision of new hampton rv convertor with the 700rpm lower stall speed I realy like the way they build them and they were highly recomended by one of the guys in the IDI forum, only problem is I have no idea how much they cost.Ford Heavy Duty Torque Converters by Precision of New Hampton, Inc.
Just checked out the racer x stuff, thanks for the links. Well I'm in Fort Leonard wood, Mo. right now so this project will be in the R&D phase for a good while.
Racer X gets my vote to. And i just noticed that you have a turboed IDI, I dont know if that E4OD is any different that the PSD one but you might want to ask if you dont already know. Just so you dont end up with the wrong parts

Only difference is the upgrade through the years. 97 is the best for the E4OD.
I just read the link to complete E4OD high performance T. Great link! Now I am a little intimidated. I guess I have a lot to learn. Still. Rats.
Don't let it intimidate you. It's not a hard transmission to work on. The best thing you can do is get the ATSG manual and read it. That will give you an idea on how to work on the beast. It dose get more technical if you want to bullet proof the tranny. Read the link thoroughly, You can contact RacerX if you have questions.
