That's interesting. Once in a while I have a few second gap between flipping the switch and the RPM jumping. Most of the time it jumps right away. I usually let the truck run for about two minutes before flipping the switch. I am running full synthetic so the oil should be fine, it is just peace of mind for me.

Never really timed the delay between hitting the switch and the RMP rise. I'd guess 5-10 sec. sounds about right tho. The "cold weather idle" and the "high idle" are two seperate systems. The 'HIM' seems to over-ride the cold weather idle mostly because the RPM's are higher. It rarely gets that cold in East TN, but on really cold mornings if I'm just starting the truck to warm up, I let the cold weather idle do it's thing. It takes longer for it to start boosting RPM's, but I would assume that it's self monitoring the oil pressure, temp, etc..and I don't have to go back out in the cold to flip the switch.

Also note that there are TWO "high idle" mods. The one that I and I think most others are using is the Battery Protection idle. Once activated it monitors battery condition and keeps them charged. Basic idle speed is 1200 RPM but will go as high as 15-2000 to charge the battery(s). The second is the PTO idle and locks the torx converter and has an option to vary the speed. That one would probably be best if you needed to power outboard equipment like snow blowers or water pumps.

I was just asking, as I don't really feel I need to add the hi-idle if the cold weather idle seems to be doing the trick. And like I said, its not like I let it sit and idle during the day. Once I'm at work, it doesn't run 'til its time to come home. Agreed with fredetteb, I don't have to go back and flip the switch, just let it do its thing. Thanks for the replies, guys!
