High idle mod question - 2005 Excursion

So thought I'd jump out this morning and do my high idle mod but I'm either missing something obvious or over complicating things. Any help is appreciated.

I've got a 2005 Ex. I was hoping I might be able to add the factory SD upfitter switches easily since it is a 2005 but doesn't appear that I have the orange wire bundle. Maybe because its an Ex and not a SD?

Plan B was to just use my led rocker switch. I easily found wire 294 (white/light blue strip) but I can't seem to locate wire 322 (light blue/yellow strip). In the location where I should be able to find the blunt cut 322 wire I do find three other blunt cut wires:

Light grn/white strip
White/orange strip
Yellow/white strip

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Jarhead

I have a 250, but my wires for the upfitter switchs were tucked up out of the way and I had to look to find them. They were stuffed up above the opening and a little to the right.

Thanks Colin. I'll get a little more aggressive on my digging. From all the google and forum searching I have yet to find a definitive post that says the 2005 Excursion was ever wired for the upfitters.

I thought that if you did have the factory upfitter switches, the kit to add them included a wiring harness that clipped into the fuse box? I don't know, mine has the factory set.

You just need to do a little testinig. Are the 14 ga or 10 ga. The four bigger 10 ga are just pass through to under hood. The smaller 14 ga are the upfitter, you can check then by putting power to each one, with you switch with ex in park and brake set, your idle will come up. Keep in mind there are more than one that does the hi idle, one is torque converter lock, one is charge protect, which is the one I used. Then when you got the correct one, solder and heat shrink your connections and heat shrink off any wires you exposed.

Did you remove the fuse box? it is a lot easier when that is out of the way! It is only four 10mm bolts and it pulls down out of the way, most of the upfitter wiring is right behind the fuse box.
Their should be a white band of tape around the main harness to tell you what color of wire is for what circuit.

Sorry to pull an old thread but did anyone ever find out which wire controlled which function? I am looking to run the BCP system and cannot find anywhere what each wire is for. I have the same wires and cannot find out what they are for.

Here is set of instructions....

h t t p://powerstrokenation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45734

This worked perfectly for me. It just needs a time delay to prevent it from going directly to hi idle when started cold.

I am not as interested in the high idle mod itself as I am in finding out wht the three blunt cut wires are for. Every time I ask this someone points me to the mod but that is not what my question is.

Does anyone know what the three blunt cut wires are for under an Excursions dash?

There are 4 wires, taped to the larger bundle that passed through the firewall (they appear on BOTH sides of the firewall)

In the Excursion, they have no purpose (the factory puts them in since the SD/Excursion use the same parts).

However, you can use them to connect up your own accessories under the hood without having to drill holes through the firewall to your own switches ...

Keep in mind, the '05 Excursion and '05 SD had more differences than prior years (ie: Message Center in Dash, and integrated tow controller, so might be other wires too).

I am familiar with the pass through wires, I am hunting what the three blunt cut wires are for that are bundled with them on the EX.
Light grn/white strip
White/orange strip
Yellow/white strip

Seems to be a mystery, no one has been able to define what they are for.

Could be related to you having a 2003 which also came with the 7.3L Diesel?

I'll check my Ford DVD tonight for those color wires and see what I can find

All of my trucks that have a high-idle use the brake-pedal switch. It seems like the perfect way to activate a high-idle... whenever you set the parking brake but leave the engine running.
