Doing "High Idle" mod

Thanks for the info for the High Idle mod, this site made that easy. Now I'm searching for information on the other wires on driver side:

Orange/White
Green/white
yellow/white

all with tape on ends. What would these be used for?

Then, I'm assuming that the other 4:

Red
Blue
Black
White

Are pass through wires. Used for other add ons. Right?
Which I would have to route through the fuse box?

I have a 2004 F350 4x4 CC SRW LB KR

Thanks in advance

i think those are "upfitter switch" wires that should already have power. check the striped wires for power.

no power to those

No power to those wires. Key on, even engine running.

Upfitter wasn't an option until '05; not sure what the wires are for though...

I did the "high idle mod" a few months ago and have been pleased with the results. Keeps the air on in the summer and heat in the winter and the dogs are much more comfortable

As for the other wires: the 3 multicolor wires are part of the "high idle system". One is for the variable idle, one is to actually vary the idle speed, and the last one is a signal wire (to wire into an LED to show that the idle is on). I don't remember which one is which, but I'm sure a forum search could find out.

The solid color wires are pass through just as you suspected. If you have lights, winch etc. you may want to wire them up to the fuse box, but most accessories have in-line fuses.

Thank you fredetteb, I have been searching for this info on the forums, probably just not hitting the right words. Thanks for the help.

Have a great New Year!

If you can't hear it you are deaf and if you are using the upfitter switches they have LED's built into them.

I have a quick question, as I've thought about doing this mod. When you activate the "high idle" upfitter switch what rpms are you seeing? The only time mine really idles is in the AM and after work, in the colder temps for 5-10 min. Mine kicks up to @1000 rpms after @ 2 min. Just curious, thanks for any replies

Mine, normally on cold mornings, on it's own, goes to about 850. I've never seen it get higher than that. (Coldest "unplugged" start has been 10F) I've never timed it, but it takes a while(a few minutes or longer) to have it idle higher.

"high idle" mod takes it straight to 1200. I will be careful to let oil pressure come up a bit before setting it to 1200. Just seems to make sense.

(Put some "upfitter switches in, pics in albums)

Mine has about a 5 sec. delay and then goes to 1200.
