302 turning problem

ok so far i have been threw 3 sets of rod bearings of differnt sizes and the motor still wont turn. thought maybe it was the crank was warped so spent money on a new crank. also got new bearings that were supposed to of worked and it doesnt. it does turn when you dont torque the rod bolts. then after you torque it form 19-24 ft lbs it locks up. i have gone threw from 24 ft lbs to 19 ft lbs. i cant figure out why if any body out there would happen to have an idea i wouldl be very thankfull. thanks.

It sounds like the block needs to be align bored. I had a similar problem once where the bottom end of the block was straight as an arrow as shown by a straight edge on the upper half of the journalsand the diameters measured out fine. However, it ate the crank in a few hundred miles. Turns out the caps were from a different block and didn't line up proprely when torqued. After finding the problem and align boring itit's been problem free for over 100k.

Oh yeah, make sure you have the caps in the right positions and pointing the right way.
Maybe torque the caps without the crank or bearings in place and make sure they line up well with the block. You shouldn't be able to feel the seam where they meet.

did you have the pistons out? Are they installed in the correct direction? The little notch on the piston should point towards the front of the engine. If you get just one installed backwards the engine won't spin.

check the numbers on the rods and cap should be 1234-on right side 5678 on left (Oil filter side)

I gather that the crankshaft turns freely without the rods connected to it.Have you checked the crank end play?Have you measured the bearing areas of the crank for size?Have you measured the oil clearance for the bearings?(plasti-gage)Are you trying to use oversize or undersize bearings? When you install the rods, are you putting the rods in so that the flat faces of the rods shoulder next to each other and the thrust faces of the rods are on the crankshaft radius? Are you turning the engine over after each rod installation to identify the problem(s) connecting rods?
