Re: 1976 F150 390 Auto
I made a 6 mile trip today and the engine stalled 4 times like it was running out of gas. On the 3rd stall I changed the fuel filter (always carry an extra), and drove the final 2 miles to my stop. When I get back in to leave, the truck starts right up, and as I'm about to leave the parking lot it stalls for the 4th time. I tried several times to start it, and it would only hit once and die. This is a daily driver so I need help right away. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
This may sound like the obvious but have you checked to see if it's got gas in the tank, next check to see if you're getting fuel to the carb, the fuel pump might be bad. If you're in cold weather it might be condensation in the tank most noticeable when the tank is low on fuel. A can of fuel conditioner might help here.
a while ago in a HOT ROD magazine article they had a writer who had a similar problem and it was a really small hole in the gas line, but it was just big enough to suck some air in and not get enough gas to the carb at highway speed, he'd stop the vehicle and after cranking a little while with the engine not drawing much fuel the vehicle would start and be able to accelerate for a while
