I bought a 61F100 half ton shortbox in Montana and I'm trying to rent a trailer to bring it to Minnesota but all the rental places say it's to big for their trailer's. I talked to Uhaul and they said if it's no longer than 12 feet from front bumper to the rear bumper it would fit on their's.Does anyone know if it is longer than 12 feet.
I don't have my truck handy to measure, but I am almost certain that it is over 12 ft in length. Figure 6ft for the bed, 3 for the cab, 3 0r 4 for the fenders, then add bumpers and... too bad.
Have you considered renting a vehicle dolly to tow it with? It's a long trip for that, but it might be an option. I know U-haul has them, I used one to tow one of my 64s after it was passed on to me. Make sure there's plenty of lube in the rear if you do this, pack the bearings, and take out the drive shaft, too. Not sure if they can be towed backwards on a dolly- never seen it done.
You might try finding a friend or neighbor with a 16 ft. dual axle to rent or loan, too.
Best of luck to ya'.

I asked uhaul about a dolly they told me it would not fit they said the only other option would be a tow bar.I don't really like the thought of that. The front end is pretty sloppy would that make it difficult to pull with a tow bar? Thanks for your help.
sixte, I don't know about Uhaul's dollies, but they will haul pickups. I have hauled both of my 66's on mine at different times. I did borrow one, that the front bumper wouldn't clear once. They really pull nicely too. If the truck has an auto tranny, disconnect the driveshaft at the rear and tie it with wire to the frame or all the fluid will come out.
Good Luck

I have used a U-haul dolly a few months ago to tow a friends Studebaker parts truck... and it worked very well. If you do this, follow as Nate_64 suggested, make sure the rear axle is well lubed, etc. I dont see why U-haul would complain....
