I thought I'd start a new thread on this instead of further hijacking the other one.
Can someone tell or show me how to tell the difference in a tilt and non tilt column visually? I cannot see enough detail in the pics I looked at to be certain of any difference in the 2.
The photo in the 1980 brochure is much clearer and I cannot spot any difference in it and mine. It does look slightly different than the pic in the 81 brochure, but like I said, not clear enough for me to be certain.
A guy looked at my 80 and saw the hole around the turnsignal stalk coming out of the column looked like a "T" and said I had a tilt column. Sure enough I did, and I didn't even know it(had the truck for couple of years). So if someone has a no-tilt column and can look at the hole were the turnsignal stalk comes out, if it's just a slot, then that would be a way to verify a tilt.
Thanks Dave. That'll do it. Now I can see the difference in ALL the photos. I was looking at that collar and thought it looked like it was maybe a little shorter or larger in diameter, but that was hard to discern in the pics and wasn't it.
I was told that if it has cruise control, it has tilt. You could even look under the hood to see if the cruise stuff is there.
I've heard that as well, but don't remember if it was all cruise controls or just certain trim packages with cruise. Mine doesn't have it now, it's in a box all cleaned up with fresh paint until I find out if the column is wired for cruise, change out the wheel and horn pad and detail the engine bay.
