Has anyone purchased a Highland 95022 V-Net Tailgate? I have a 2004 F350 XLT Supercrew Dually with a 6.0L diesel. I pull a 36 ft Westport fifth wheel. I want a V tailgate but the cheesy looking ones are just way to expensive. I have looked at the V-Nets made by Highland. They have 2 sizes for Ford SD's One is for older Fords measuring 62" to 64", and one for newer Fords measuring 64" to 66". My question is what years are they calling old and when do they consider them to be new? I measured my tailgate at the outside edge and got 64". Should I go with the old or new version?
IF you like the more expensive V style gate, but don't like the price. Keep an eye on your local Craigslist under the auto parts and RV sections. There is usually one or two a week around here listed on Craigslist in the $100 price range.
Now on the other hand, don't expect any savings in fuel and or increase in MPG due to the gate being installed. I don't think you will see any.
YET again, on the other hand. Why is it you want a V style gate? Is it simply for the purpose of not having to raise and lower the gate when you hook up? Or is it because because of the weight of the tailgate and how difficult it can be to lift it up from under the 5th wheel overhang?
If it is the latter reason they do make a tension bar that installs on the tailgate of the truck that sells for about $20. It removes aprox 80% of the weight of the tailgate when being lifted upwards. Makes it a light one hand lift. I got mine at Trailer hitch, hitches and bike rack (800)298-8924
a couple of years ago and sure do appreciate it being there.
