This may seem like a ridiculous question because I can buy a new tailgate but here goes anyway.
I have a 1997 f250 powerstroke and the tailgate is pretty beat up. A buddy of mine has a fifth wheel tailgate on his wrecked 85' f250. My question is if the 80's tailgate would work on my truck. It would save me some money if it fits and all I have to do is drive out and get it. If it won't work than I'll have to buy a new one . I'm selling the truck soon so I'm trying to lesson an eye sore and do it cheap.
Mine came off a late 70s Ford and I was able to make it work on my 95 with a little work on the latch system. I love the fifth wheel gate because it allows me to step into the bed easily.

Thanks guys. Turns out he had another tailgate out there from a 97'. So a lot less work for me. That's what happens when you have your own personal salvage yard . It's funny that I never paid attention to the two latch styles. Now I know.
