Today, on my way home from work, I passed a guy in a silver/silver blue ' 78 or ' 79 F250, that I've seen here in town before, he gave me the "Thumbs Up" as he passed, that made my day, my ' 78 F150 Supercab looks pretty good, but right now is showing the effects of TWO very bad chain/production shop paint jobs, so some of our trucks are not so pretty, BUT my factory intermitnt wipers, cruise, a/c,all work perfectly, and we all know "MECHANICS FIRST"
I hope everyone has an experiance like I did today. -Supercab
Why yes Supercab!
Every time I pass a good looking older Ford, I make it a point to always wave! Can't count the number of times I've been asked what year my truck is and how nice that it looks for being 34 years old ). I have a 66'F250, 352v8, np435. 268,000 original miles, 3rd owner. Painted Ford blue & White. FORD!! the only thing to drive!! ).
Whenever I see an old ford truck I usually throw it in the Neutral and rack it up alittle bit..Once they figure out where its coming from they usually do the same, Of course the person in front of me gets pretty scared lol
Anymore, it is rare that you see the older fords or any other trucks running around. I wish there were more running around. Now it is just the newer cars. I really get a kick out of it when i am in my 71 and i see another nice looking ford out. I always try to make a point to wave.
Yesterday when I took the grandson to Hardys for lunch in the '77 people tried to see how far away they could park. I wonder if it has something to do with the rusted out box and pass door still in red primer. Too bad the didn't look under the hood cuz there is the cleanest Ford blue 460's you ever wanted to see. It's one of those things that you really don't want to hide.
i tend to do the same thing. and if i pull up to them at a light,or vice-verce, i strike up a three minute chat about our trucks.(my wife is here and for ten years, didnt understand why i do this, thanks guys, cause now she understands)she lol..
lol I hear ya on the rust and primer...Peoples first impression of my truck is usually eh, Right now the bed is primered Red, and the rest faded and chiped tampico yellow, One of the front coil springs is bad so its got that "Ghetto" stance..and the front bumber is bent(actaully its the frame) From the previous owner...So its always fun to see the look on peoples face when im burnin tires or when they just cant pass me
I got my 78 supercab highboy out of necessity but I have grown to appreciate the "status" It also made me alert to the small population of older Ford trucks in my town. keep 'em rollin!
I'm going to show me age now but bear with me. Back in the 50's the "sleeper" was the rustbucket that looked like it wouldn't make it through the next stoplight, sounded like it was missing on six of the eight and was in dark grey primer. The only difference was that the older flat head v8 Fords had enough room under the hood to hold the Chrylser 512 with a full race cam. After awhile you blew your cover and finally got a paint job, put on the lake pipes, full cruiser fender skirts, and spinners on the front wheels. It sure was fun while it lasted. Couldn't keep the tires on though. Glad to see the game still goes on....
