Ford wouldn't produce a unique vehicle that is expected to sell 20,000 units per year. You'd have to add a zero to that before Ford would consider it. No matter how similar the Excursion looks to a Superduty, it is a unique vehicle.
That's why there isn't an Excursion now. When they killed the Excursion there was a waiting list for Superduty orders. Getting the Excursion out of the plant freed up a lot of production to make Superdutys that were selling well.
It wasn't done to appease tree huggers, it was done to make more money. Selling that few Excursions was not profitable. There were a lot of unique parts that were expensive because their volume was low. Making all Superdutys is MUCH less costly, so there were more profits.
Thank You! and the Ex was discontinued long before Pres Obama was on the scene....... there was a thread a while back where the total number of Ex's was in the 200,000 range. compare that to explorers, expeditions, or SD trucks and its pretty evident why they stopped. also the number made decreased each sucessive year....
There is definitely a small niche market for a new Ex. esp with civil service like Fire and police depts etc... however I guess they ust don't buy enough to ustify building them.....
i wasn't trying to say that obummer was the cause of the discontinuation of the Ex. i know ford had their reasons.
but does everyone here think that there wouldn't be an opposition from the "go green" goobers about the production of another non-eco friendly SUV? there is already countless people that are anti everything SUV. and i'm sure there would be eco-groups padding the politicians pockets to hinder the production of a vehicle with excursion similarities......... there are people that will dislike you JUST because you pull up to the gas pump with an SUV hauling 5 kids, that THEY KNOW (not think, KNOW) you are killing the environment single handedlly, by driving a vehicle that serves a purpose to accommodate your family...... but they know for a fact you can cram 5 people into a smart car, and that's what YOU should be doing instead of driving an SUV that is producing more harm than their hybrid mini roller skate.
i'm sure for weighed the options, and looked at all the numbers like you said. and i'm sure they weighed the idea of it being an optional production vehicle as well, but YES it is not a common seller compared to the SD line up. i didn't mean to get every one all riled up and thinking that i meant that Obummer was the sole killer of the excursion line up.

You're far too sensitive about owning an EX. Personally, I own both an EX AND a Prius. (Does that make me carbon neutral?) I get snobbish looks no matter what I'm driving to the gas pump! SUV folks hate my Prius and Prius folks hate my EX. Who cares what others think? I sure don't. Just drive and enjoy the darn thing!
LOL, carbon neutral, that's a good one!! i think you officially qualify, hahaha
(no more off topic)
i would like to see one as well, but i think in today's times, there would be to much opposition, and a select market is also true too.
Maybe someone could post the production numbers of the Excursion by year, then everyone can see why it is gone. I was disappointed the X was being discontinued in 2005, but even with many X owners selling theirs to buy the last of the X's in 2005, sales and production numbers were minuscule for 2005 due to lack of demand.
I'm sure the tree huggers had some to do with people not buying, but high fuel prices did as well.
I don't want it to come back. I look forward to mine being a classic someday.
I kind of agree with you too!
Although, Ford could make a 3/4 ton version of the Expedition EL with a 6.7 Diesel in it, now that would be nice! Still not as nice as the big Ex though!
