well i filled up truck at a normal place i get my fuel from, lots of semi's
get fuel there to. so i go home about 10mi, then i have to turn around
to goto part store, start up first hill, truck starts missing, engine light
keeps coming on and off, even when i am coasting down the other side,
i am like what now, dont break down on me now, let alone this month.
well long story short, i take it and get the code read, 6 codes come up.
1670-electronic feedback signal not detected
1316-injector drive module code detected
P1211-injector control psi above/below desired
P0542-intake air heat circuit high
P0221-throttle pedal position switch B circuit range/performance
P0471-exhaust psi sensor range performance
so the dealer tells me it might be the injector drive module it cost around $800.00 just for part
about maybe just a guess but 40,000 mi ago all the injectors were replaced
by ford dealer, cost around 1,600.00 for all the work performed
has any of you guys had this go wrong with your truck, my wife wants to sink my truck
in the river, haha, it just seemes every year this truck hit me for 2g.
this is a 02 7.3 f350 single wheel, has edge with attitude 5 level chip, 4in exhaust, k&n filter
any help would be great, and would it be ok to look for this part in a junk yard
or can you tell me what to do, buy a new one, or send my old one to get fixed thanks very much
i had this problem not too long ago, and it wasnt the idm module that was bad so dont go buying one until your positive thats the problem. I would check the valvecover harness on both sides to see if they are unplugged and that would cause the injectors to not fire also check the main harness under the air intake tube because it rubs on the valvecover and eats through the wires (both problems i had). I went with ford and bought an idm module online for a good deal and when that wasnt the problem i was furious so if you end up needing an idm send me an email and we can work somthing out skateboarddvs@yahoo.com
well after about 20miles or so then it seemes to clear up, runs fine, but i only drove the truck 3 or 4 times like this, cause i do not want to break down, cell phones dont work to good where i live, haha
when i first got the truck i took every plug apart on it and put some die electric grease in them
but i will check all this out thanks very much
Welcome to FTE. If you're tired of spending that much money on your truck then you need to hang out here more often and keep it away from the dealer. Odds are you've been paying money for things you didn't need.
As mentioned, the common issue for your description is a loose connector under the valve cover (UVCH = under valve cover harness). Here's a link to a UVCH issue in another thread that covers the diagnosis and fix (without ever going to the dealer).
After we work through your current issue, promise me you'll pull the K&N filter and inspect the intake tube going back to your turbo for any signs of dust inside there. We've read way too many horror stories about dusted turbos or engines from a K&N. If you have an issue with that (not related to your current symptoms), let's catch it before it turns into $$$.
thanks for the welcome,
ok well i started reading that post and my truck blows the white smoke out when its cold, i also have to plug it in, once it gets to about 35 to 40 i have to cycle the key a few times to get it to start, then the smoke comes out, and any colder than that its a pain in the but, i go through batteries about every 2 years, i did try to change the relays on top of the motor, but no luck, i still have to plug it in, any ideas on that, i have a 08 super duty with the 6.4 harley edt, that one i dont drive that much, well not in the winter, black in a pain to try to keep clean,
Instead of changing relays on top of the motor, you should check to see if they're even working. The one in the back controls the glow plugs. There are 2 large posts on the relay. One is hot all the time. The other only comes on for a few seconds up to 120 seconds after the key is turned on. If you don't see any voltage on that 2nd large post when the key is turned on, then the glow plugs are not getting energized, new relay or not.
My wife has a black truck too. She loves it about half the time. The other half she hates it because it's either dirty or she sees swirl marks in it.
Well I am on my way to try and fix my truck. It is running worse since the last time I drove it. On the high-way it is just chugging. Is this ok to drive like this. Thanks again for your time
Ok I have the pass side valve cover off I got bad readings when I tested the injectors all 4 were 6.2 to 6.4 Glow plugs were 2.9 - 3.3 - 6.9 - 4.2. I started truck with cover off and all 4 were pumping oil. What do I do now
Ok I tested all the injectors again and I got the same readings. Mid 6's. I am doing this from my phone. I would really like it if I can talk to someone over the phone. I need all the help I can get. I never done any kind of work on this truck before and I am lost now. Do the high readings mean I need all new injectors. If someone can call me that would be great.

Well my wire harness plug was tight. The only problem that I have is the high readings on the injectors. What do I do now. Sorry for all the questions but I just don't know what step is next
