HArmonic Dampner spacer

I'm trying my first re-build currently on a 460 out of an 84 pick-up. I've got it tore down to the bottom end and am having trouble removing the harmonic dampner spacer. The key on the end of the crank will not allow it to be removed. Several people have told me to smack the key off with a hammer and screwdriver. I am very reluctant to take a hammer to the crank. Could anyone give me some advice.

I had a key that got stuck that I removed with a pair of diagonal cutters/dikes. The screwdriver method also works.

Try heating it up with propane torch.GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks for the input. I was a little worried about using the screw driver and hammer but it must be stuck in there it wont budge.

When you reinstall it, use some anti seize on the key for next time.
