Pulling engine and transmission- couple questions?

Finally started my 5.0 HO conversion today from the stock truck 5.0- I plan to use the Mustang harness and ecm as well.

I pulled the engine yesterday. I only pulled the engine since I wasn't sure how or where to disconnect the hydralics for the clutch. I am replacing the trans with a rebuilt unit and haven't received the slave cylinder I ordered.

So onto the question- The engine is out and I should have the trans ready to pull here soon and don't plan to pull the transfer case. Do I need to support the transfer case in some way while pulling the trans? Mine also seems to be missing the transfer case skid plate but it looks like the only thing holding it with the trans out are the front and rear drive shafts- is that sufficient to hold the transfer case?
Thanks

honestly u will be better off pulling the transfer case with the transmission or it will be a pain it the *** later when u go to put it all back together and no that isnt a sufficient way to support it

I'm with Hitokori on this one. just pull the driveshaft off the trans case and pull the whole unit out at once. Swap the trans case on the ground and install your trans and trans case together

Yep when I pulled my 4 speed the first time I left it all together..Second time I droped it all together then took it apart on the ground and put the tranny then the T-Case back up.. Either way its a pain just take your time and be careful.

Yea- I can see that the trans and transfer case is really loose. I wish I had pulled it all out at once but I was trying to save some time and it ends up costing me more as a result.

I now have both driveshafts out and loosened the trans mount but where do I break the line for the slave cylinder? I still haven't received my new one yet so I'm not sure where to detach the lines on this system?

Thanks for your help
Bob

I dont know on that Im guessing internal slave? Mine on my T-18 is external so I just pulled the slave and tucked it out of the way with the line still attatched

Yes- it's an internal slave with an M5OD. It's no T18 but it hasn't really been a bad trans considering all the bad publicity it gets and the fact that I'm not very nice to it. For now I am just replacing the box with a rebuilt one. Later on if the extra 100 or so horsepower I'm putting in front of it beats it up too badly I might do the ZF swap.

You disconnect the line right where it hooks on to the slave cylinder. There is a special tool for this, or you can try pushing on the white sleeve with one flat screwdriver as you gently pull on the line. The screwdriver method worked for me.

Excellent- thank you very much! I am done for the day and will hit it tomorrow morning. I did unbolt the transfer case and remove it. I even cleaned it up and shot it with a couple coats of engine paint.
Once the trans is out the hard part starts with removing the harness and installing the mustang mass air harness.

Anyone else ever do this conversion? Any tips? Still not sure a bout throttle linkage.............

I wouldn't mess around putting the t-case on the transmission before you install the trans. It is just more mass hanging on the back end of the transmission and will make installing harder.
