4 wheel drive issue

i have 2000 ford excursion v8 and it will not engage in 4lo or 4 hi with the hubs in auto . from the switch inside on dash but it still shows it is engaged on dash cluster it says 4 lo or 4 hi

have you tried turning the hubs to lock? one of mine doesnt like to work in auto mode so i have to lock the hubs manualy and everything works great.

yeah if i lock them both it works great but father in law hates to have to get out all the time wants to be able to switch it from inside and it will not engage when he does
