Sealing a C6

Well the C6 saga continues.

As part of my recent work I pulled the pan off of the tranny, it was leaking real bad, refitted it with a new filter, fluid and gasket. Ran the truck enough to cycle the fluid and top it up good and then rechecked the pan to make sure that I got a good seal.

Well the gasket sealed up real nice, but the bolt holes are apprently worn to the point that there is now tranny fluid seeping around the base of the bolt and pooling in the head of the bolts. When I had the pan off I tapped the sealing surface flat and noticed that some of the bolt holes were'nt round anymore but didn't think that they would leak like this.

Has anybody used RTV to seal their tranny? I intentionally avoided using RTV because I didn't want to risk having any of it end up floating around in the fluid and through the inside of the tranny.

Any input appreciated.

Ron I would pull the bolts out one by one and spray them off with either, then put some silicone on the threads of the bolts and screw them in.

I don't understand the reason why people think they have to tighten the dog **** out of tranny pan bolts and valve cover bolts!!!!

Good idea but what about the tranny fluid that is in the housing threads, etc. I guess I can try to can clean that too and if it seals I'm still in it for less than the full fluid fill would cost.

I couldn't agree more. I can just see then guy with the veins in his forearms about to bust saying that they have to be tight to seal, when he was the one that did the damage in the first place.

I also like the guy with a 2 foot breaker bar tightening a 5/16" bolt, and wondering why it broke before he could not pull it any more.
