Actually the break away has nothing to do with the controller.
You have to have constant 12 volt power to the trailer connector to charge the trailer mounted battery though.
Then a lanyard connects to the truck on one end and a break away switch on the trailer tounge.
If you loose the trailer, the lanyard pulls a pin out of the switch and the trailer mounted battery locks up the trailer brakes.
Basically if you have or need trailer brakes, you need a break away system as well.
Yea I'm pretty sure texas was 3000 but not all had to have breakaways. At least my boat trailers don't, may be illegal though they didn't from the factory (which doesn't mean they are legal).
Adding a resister to up the amp load kinda defeats the purpose of going with leds to cut down on the amp load. I knew there was a reason I always liked them shifters that stick through the floor.
You add the resistor to just the brake lights, and I guess if you can find the wire that feeds that signal to the PCM you can put the resistor right before the PCM, thus having low current through the brake lights (which is what you intended to begin with), and the E4OD still shifting fine.
