My ISSPro trans temp gauge is fluctuating between 160-280 very erratically. Stock gauge is normal and not fluctuating. Which is correct? Would the fluid jump 100 degrees in seconds? The fluid was about a pint low but no burned smell.
No, it's probably electrical. Check the connection, if it's single wire connection, verify that you didn't use tape on sensor's threads. That's where it gets its ground. If all that's good, could be a bad sensor.
I have had the same problem about once a year. Every time (exept for once) the wire connection by the sensor in the tranny would get moisture inside and cause some corrosion. After the 3rd time I shrink wrapped it. The one time I mentioned above was a wire that came loose in the junction box under the dash - just like you mentioned.

I think this might be what is going on. I am going to take the sender out this afternoon and check it out. Thanks!
Same here on the yearly cleaning. Usually mid winter. I figured next time I'll cut the plug out and solder, shrink tube the connection. Hope I would never have to remove the sender...
