This guy I know is willing to swap me my C6 and NP203 tranfer case for his 4Speed and NP205.(we both have 400's) I have a donor truck for the replacement gearset(his is popping out of 3rd for some reason), and for the clutch linkage, pedal, pretty much everything.
My question is, since I will have a donor truck for the parts, with my truck being originally auto, how much of a knuckle-basher is changing this going to be??
I know I will need to have new driveshafts made.
Matt; Help me understand this! Someone (a Buddy!)is willing to swap you a broken 4 speed for your working C-6!? And you plan to install this in a truck that has brakes that "suck"!!!? Focus here Matt fix your brakes. Borrow the stick shift truck and go muddin, see if you have more control/fun with a stick, then reconsider doing this. Conversions can be very difficult, the most difficult are auto to stick.
I've gotton used to my brakes. Yeah I want to make them better, but I'm used to them now. I'll fix those somewheres down the road. I was really wondering how hard it actually is to swap the 2, I have been mudding with a stick before and much prefer it. I also really love the granny low when it comes to just getting heavy loads moving, or just when you want to really crawl over something.
I may stick with my C6, I just wanted to know how much work I might be getting into, if it's worth it or not.
If you and your buddy are swaping transmissions and transfer cases why don't you go ahead and swap steering columns, drive shafts and anything else that needs to be changed to complete the swap? It seems to me that if you park the trucks side by side and start switching parts then neither of you should come up short on neccessary parts and you will be able to compare parts to be sure exactly what needs to be changed and what can stay put.

THAT much has to be swapped? I thought you just needed the clutch linkage and pedal and whatnot.
I actually decided to keep my C6 anyways though, I got to go mudding in a Bronco with this tranny (the 4 speed) and I didn't like it one bit.. It seems to me I'd break alot of ujoints and axles and such. so I ordered a B&M shiftkit and am going to order a good tranny cooler also. Gunna swap it all in when I get my engine done later next month.
