Hey there! Welcome 86!
I have an '85 that is mechanically similar to your truck with the exception of a C6 automatic transmission. It is really cool that you are honoring your Grandfather by keeping his truck going. I wouldn't trade mine for love nor money and I'll bet he felt the same way! If this is the first large pickup you have had, get ready to be AMAZED! I have had mine for quite a while now and I am still routinely blown away by what I can do, tow, haul, pull, climb, crush (just kidding) with this machine. The guys on this forum are AWESOME and they will give you more help than you can believe, so you are definitely in the right place and talking to the right people! I definitely agree with them when they say to see what you have first and save your energy and money for the things that really need to be repaired. It seems like given a little common sense and TLC these trucks will run and work great for a long time. Mine was somewhat neglected and abused like yours when I got it and it really didn't take much to bring it back to life.
Good luck and please know that we will all be anxious to see how you and your truck progress!
Dave

Never underestimate a 22RE. I can't tell from the pic but it looks a whole lot mine. 94 extended cab Hi-Lux. It definitely is the same color. Just think of how much better it would have pulled that truck if you weren't already taxing it with those big ol' tires.
I Know that mine has rolled over 3 times. But it is on it's second engine.
it was on the 0. and i checked with my dad and he said it had low miles. so hell ya i have 64,000 miles! i geuss my grandpa drove it from Oregon to Texas 3 times. and drove it to work down the road everyday but mostly it was parked.

Oh, I believe you and I don't know that the '86 instruments do have another digit. Mine only goes to 99,999.9
Welcome to the forum, and good luck with your Grandpa's truck!
im 15 and i picked up my first project a 86 f250 2x4 with 460 and a 5spd. my grandpa bought her new in 87 drove her until 2005 and gave it to my uncle who used it his farm and thats where things went down hill. workers thrashed on it until 2008 when the poor old girl gave out. they parked it in the barn where it still sits. long story short she's mine now. i picked up a pile of 460 parts on craigslist for 25 bucks. starting this weekend me and my cousin are gonna start puting the moter out and put it back together. just thought id share the build will post pics next time i go out to the farm where she's parked. this truck is no ordinary truck it was my grandpa's favorite truck he died 2 months after getting rid of her. so my mission is to get her going again and make her my first truck. any input or ideas is great thanks!
WOW! This sounds like the exact same situation that I am in now. I am looking to get my Grandpa's old 84 F150. She runs but Ive been told the body and frame are in bad shape. I really want to get it but I don't know if I have the money/knowledge to fix it . That pick looks like you have a really nice truck there. Good luck with it.

I'm with you there. My 80 and 2 replacements I have dealt with off Ebay didn't have the extra digit and rolled over at 99,999.9. A 064000.0 would in all probability be original. That's not 100% because I just got through playing with one with less digits and was able to take it apart and re-assemble it set to 00000.5. The tenth of a mile was a PITA to mess with so I left it alone.
BTW- 3 times between Oregon and Texas. I'm assuming the worst and it wound up in Oregon? .
