Need new 4.0
Hey there! I blew the 4.0 in my 97 ford explorer sport 4x4, 5 speed. The vin # has the code X for the engine. My plan is to go to the junk yard and find the best motor i can out of a crashed car. Does anyone know what engine would drop right in without electrical disasters?? I just want to know what year was the best, and i am able to do a little electrical if a better motor will need it caus i need a reliable car, and i hear they had a couple bad years and i dont know which. Any advice on getting a junkyard motor is appreciated! Thankyou!!!

OBD-II is all '96 and newer passenger cars. Make sure your engine comes from a '96-'98. You want the same VIN X model OHV not SOHC engine. Any from those years will work as it should, but go outside that and you could have some issues.
