If camperspecial65 is in Olympia then we are neighbors. I will definitely try to speak to him, but at this time I can only leave a visitor message for him on his profile page.
I just sent you an email with Don's (camperspecial65) contact info.
Will, I picked up a couple of badly needed pieces from Don. He's a treasure and close to you. Definitely worth contacting. I made a round trip from Ferndale one very stormy October night. Took over 10 hours!
You know after reading what Nd posted for the fitment I have a 64 cluster that I am not going to use as I am going digital so if you want let me know and we can fix you up if want.
I've made the long haul up to Skagit county to spend the day by the river oldblu, so I know what you mean. It was an all day trip but definitely worth it. It's really nice up there in your neck of the woods.
I saw your new ride mikeyyy, nice! Happy trails to you. We are very lucky there are a lot of slick trucks in the area. I've been seeing at a lot of them lately in the Portland area.
Merci beaucoup dman for the kind offer of the instrument cluster and the other helpful advice which I took. Another user here camperspecial65 (Don) lives about a half an hour from me and has one of these, and some other stuff I need. It will be a lot faster for me to get them from him if it works out.
Don and his friend Brent came by my house today and took a look at the `66 pickup. He definitely knows these old trucks and had a lot of interesting things to say. I think I kept them too long, but I've got so many small fix up jobs to do before I'm finished. I'm lucky to have someone else close by who can help with parts and the hands on stuff that I will surely run into problems with.
Camperspecial65 came by again this evening with a few new parts and got the gas and temperature gauges working. William was correct that the voltage regulator/reducer was bad. Unfortunately either one or both of the gas and temperature gauges was also bad. We had to replace all three things to get them working again. I will be checking their function over the next couple of days to see how accurate they are, but for now I'm just happy to see the needles moving.
In the mean time I have built up the mostly missing windshield washer system. When I bought the truck all it had was the washer pump, the not wired to it washer button on the dash and nothing else. I was lucky and found another `66 at the junkyard and grabbed the spray nozzles off of it. I got everything mostly hosed together and will put in the wiring I got from CS65 next; so if everything works that's almost done.
I've got a cracked and star spangled windshield so I'm having a new tinted windshield installed Wednesday. I've got to get her put back together tomorrow for the trip to the shop Wed. The truck will be ready for some serious cruising after all this work has been completed. I'm tired of replacing broken windshields. I want to keep my new windshield a long time. Where did you say I can buy those star trek deflector shields?
Thanks again to my buddy Don and everyone here for helping out with the pickup! I will update my garage with some new pictures sometime after Wed.
Hey Will so you have seen Don, I sent him a couple of emails looking for some parts but haven't heard back thought maybe he was out of town. Maybe I will send another message to him.
Greetings dman. Yeah, I kept him away from his emails yesterday.Go ahead and ping him again. He said he's been working on his crown vicky. I have to talk to him and if I do I will mention to him to check his mail.
I forgot to say that I ordered an inspection cover from Sanderson Ford in AZ and that part is on the way. Other than that I scavenged an undamaged rear view mirror, an ignition switch, starter solenoid and a couple of nice scissors and bottle jacks and tire irons from the junkyard. I've got two matching sets of tires but no spare for either one and I am still trying to figure out the best way to secure and carry a spare around once I have one?
I got the dash put back together today for the trip to the glass shop tomorrow. Unfortunately I've got a couple of burned out bulbs to replace in there and none in stock so I'll be going right back in. I've still got lots of stuff to do, but I've taken care of most of the needs done right now stuff.
Nice clean crown vicky CS65 and Brent's hurst is awesome.
Thanks again for the bulbs. I put them in the console today, but that's about all I had time to do. A couple of the spring loaded bulb sockets are not holding the bulbs right anymore and need to be replaced. The old bare bones console with so many issues is making me want to start saving my pennies and get rid of all of it and go with one of those nice modern multiple gauge sets. The base model truck is so spartan inside it almost begs for at least one or two bells and whistles.
The temperature gauge is still staying all the way over on hot all the time. I will see if I can locate and maybe fix the temp. sending unit this weekend?
I got the (missing) inspection cover installed yesterday, so now I feel pretty good about driving her down the road!
"A Glass Enterprises" and custom Mustang shop in Centralia, WA installed a new tinted windshield and did an outstanding job. They saved me some money and I couldn't be happier. I created another picture album so you can see the before and after. The other album has the before pictures.
