1966 F100 240/3spd. to 390/C6 install troubles
Hi, I'm needing some assistance on the install of my C6 into my 66. I've already got the engine in and mounted up I just need to get the trans. up and mounted but it seems like the bellhousing is too big for the hump in the floor board. I'm sure there's about 3 different solutions to this problem I'm just wondering which one is the easiest for one guy to do. Thanks in advance.

You have a truck that came with a manual tranny. The C6 bell will not fit the opening. You have two choices, grind & knock out the rivets, replacing them with bolts, or pull the engine and stuff it back with the tranny attached. Adding the bolts will allow the tranny to be pulled in the future without pulling the engine also should it be needed.

C6 Requires a four speed add on pan to fit.
It is an add on to all C6 installs in later trucks and all floor four speeds.
Also the FE C6 will not install from underneath with the cross tie member in place as the bell housings are to big. As John posted above you need to make it removable as it is in later trucks.

Dave I disagree on the pan, my floor is original & unchanged from the 3spd. Stuffing it in, is the only issue that I am aware of, but you have built more of these than me.
We stuffed the engine & tranny in at the same time with no issues. It had to go to the tranny shop after the install, and the shop had to remove the rivets to take down the cross member to access the tranny.

I have done a number of swaps using a C-6 trans and while the three speed floor pan to a C-6 fit is tight, there is adequate clearance, and this has nothing to do with the C-6 not fitting through the "hole" between the floor pan and crossmember. Either the cross member needs to come out, or you can hoist the body off the frame. Having done both I will say that removing the cross member is a bit easier, especially the second time you need to pull the trans.
Sometimes putting the crossmember back in can be a challenge, but not impossible.
I am not disagreeing with the other posts as to what Ford did, only stating what I know to work.
