This is from the tech folder...but it might help:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-all-done.html

The OP in that thread claims on the '03 at the door panel it's a black wire with a white tracer. I haven't dug into the wire of my '04 (heated mirrors w/ the turn signals is on my "to do list") yet so I don't know that for a fact.

I will be doing this after I get the uplifter switches in my truck. Also going to put the plow lights on it.

Nice job, reps to you!

This is of the three switches on my to-do list. A switch for this, a switch for 2WD-LO, and a switch to activate my backup camera display if I'm not in reverse.

Thanks!

Yea, I saw that too, but that is the wire at the door, and I assume there must be one for the left door and the right door, which seemed way to complicated for me to try and tap into.

This is for 2004 F350

This is for 2004, F350

Called Ford dealer in Ashland, Oregon where this truck was originally purchased. Jason was very helpful.

They told me this: DarkGreen/Violet is wire color

Connector on back of fuse block:
270 D pin #8

And under Passenger kick panel:
C210 pin#4

DarkGreen/Violet is wire color

Disclaimer: Some people say I don't listen very well. Or, it goes in one ear and out the other.
I will be doing this mod tomorrow. If you see something strange in the pictures I'm placing of what I took pictures of location of wire, let me know. Pictures are now in my Albums.

I will do a test before starting. I'm going to pull the Dark Green/ Violet wire first thing in the morning to check the temp of the mirrors to make sure I disconnected the right wire.

I'm looking forward to your install, testing, and results. I think it's great for the members of this board to have 2 different ways to do this mod.

Yes but do they ever go off automatically? That's what the switch is for. All of ours come on automatically but they stay on all the time.

Well, it is the Dark Green/Violet wire. I started this by making sure both mirrors were actually heating. First temp was 44f, let them heat for about 5 min. then they were right at 70f.

Turned everything off, and tore into the fuse block. ( oh, I taped a bag of ice to the passenger mirror to cool down, driver side was in the sun ) Located the wire at connector 270D and reomoved it from the connector, which is a pita. Turned the koer to make sure the mirrors wouldn't heat back up. After 5 min. They were still cold.

Then, just went about wiring the darkgreen/violet wire into a switch on the dash. After installation, tested the switch to the mirrors and let sit. Quite a while, lost track of time. When I did test the temp. on the mirrors, both were right at 80f. Nice and toasty!

While I was screwing around, went ahead and installed LEDs for heated seats. Right where Benchwrench placed His. I did find some orange ones though. They also had Red and Green. These were found in the second drawer at Radio Shack part#276-0272. (these were a tad bigger, took a 9/32 pilot hole)

Thanks loubell for the original mod post. This was fun.

And as said before, the wire color and location was for a 2004, not sure what newer or older would be. There are pictures in my albums where the 270D connector is located.

Time for an Adult Beverage! (or 2 )

Villestrip, did you end up figuring out the wire color for an '06? That's what I have.
