I need an air-filter for my Banks Sidewinder turbo. It is the older style with the large rectangle air box. Does anyone know where I can buy one and what the part number might be?
If it has a number cast in it like the ats you can cross it over to other brands.
The ats has the k and n number and I belive fram is the other number cast in, I know mine has two brands cast in.
I had to buy one a few years back (danged mice!) and Banks still had them in stock. Be seated when you hear the price. You might get dizzy! I don't remember exactly how much (traumatic stress memory loss). It was way overpriced... but the only game in town. I couldn't find a crossover to anything else. Mine is the first gen Banks kit (not a Sidewinder) so that may make my observation moot.
My 94 factory turbo F-250 was made by ATS and has that same style air box...I have always wondered if they were the same size. It wouldn't hurt to go by the autoparts store and look one up for my truck using the vin code" K" to see if it will work. Fram part number CA7403, $29.
ATS and banks use a different filter, even my older ATS uses a different one than a stock one. The K and N filter from the banks should have a number on the lip maybe there have been some other manufactures jumped on the band wagon and it can be cross referanced. At any rate I'm glad to hear banks did this (no business from me).
Last I looked into it, the filter wasn't available from Banks or K&N, so, I ended up with a BHAF setup that bypassed the box completely on my 6.9.
If you have a Sidewinder with the big rectangular filter housing, this applies, the very first sidewinder branded turbos were the old style turbos, and the wastegated turbo was optional...
Well the Banks PN is 41505. JEGS carries a Banks filter with this pn but it is $61 plus shipping and handling. I'm going to look around a little more, with Banks not making this system any more I am surprised that they haven't given other companies the rights to make the filter for them.
Does anyone out there have a filter that you are not using that is still in usable condition that you would be willing to sell? I am on a limited budget and its killing me to think that I have to spend over 60 dollars for a stinking air filter. Performance4Trucks sells a Banks filter as well but they still want $56 for it.
