Wow, interesting, never knew they had a weight difference for inspections, thought everybody got inspected period. As for the weight stations, they normally check for weight, log books, violations pertaining to brakes and equipment and lght failures, do they climb under the trucks, sometimes but thats rare unless its a full blown DOT check, I think you will be alright, they don't bother pickups. I'm a tractor trailer-straight truck driver and serve the tri-state area for 19 years so I'm well aware of the checks.
I didn't know either. After I told a couple friends of mine that I got my truck inspected they told me just register it at 10,500 and I won't have to worry about it. None of their trucks have been inspected for years. They said its only for trucks registered with commercial plates though. Maybe I should do a little more research on it though.
I'm sure there's a way around everything, realitivy speaking but you guys got state inspection stations over there versus our independent stations over here. I wanted to do a straight pipe at first and the station owner said they wouldn't do it, their inspection sticker and if I got caught with the straight pipe, their inspection licence could be revolked, rare but it happens.
I guess I've been lucky with my POS tranny, 207,000 mi. on the original POS with 6p-chip pulling a 24' enclosed work trailer east coast, south, north, west coast, and no problems so far. Drive sane, watch the tranny temp, change the fluid regularly, treat it like you'd like to keep it around for a while.
Are you serious?!?!? With all that power you're putting to the wheels, it's still stock? I'm impressed if true. Lots of folks around here who chip a 7.3L and run the stock automatic experience catastrophic transmission failure. A friend of ours had one explode climbing a grade empty. My neighbor runs a lawn care business and his entire fleet was 7.3L PSD's. All of the automatics were highly problematic.
All the Ford plow rigs were always in the shop due to their trannys being junk when I lived in NH in '01-'03. Actually we had three Fords puke their POS automatics on our driveway. That's when I decided to put a plow on the Chevy.
I went with a standard transmission while looking for a PSD to keep away from their automatic transmission like it was the plague.
Yes, I'm serious. I've been chipped for almost three years, and the TransGo for about 2 years. It's the way to go, in my humble.......
