I was hoping to find a thread dealing with the installation of a wind/rock deflector to the hood of my 05 Supercrew. It appears that I'm supposed to completly remove the grill for the install. Is that the usual situation?
I completely removed my grille, cleaned the hood so that it it wouldnt scratch the paint. Once it was all clean I removed the backing from the 3m tape on the deflector then stuck it on. Once it's on you can put your grille back on, just make sure it's where you want it before you tighten it all the way. I didnt have mine flush so I had a small gap where the grille meets the bug deflector. I just loosened the bolts and put it back to where it goes. Around a 30 min install with all the cleaning and test fits.
Thank you for your responses, I'll bite the bullet and remove the grille. The instructions, which I always read, instructed that the grille had to come off and the deflector installed between the hood and the grille, which to me, would cause a small gap. But, I'm a "big boy", I'll stop whining and "geter done".
Oh, and don't worry about the crunching/squeeking sound after you put the grille back on. I thought I was trashing the paint on the hood, but its just the plastic delfector rubbing on the plastic grille surround, much like how styrofoam squeeks if it rubs on something...
